FX is a UNIX-like kernel and started out as a project called 'Fjord' in late 2025. Initially, it was going to be a unique design but later the idea was scrapped. In kernel version 1.0.0 (where the directory's .git/ starts) Fjord was renamed to FX.

The name 'FX' doesn't really have a meaning, altough we internally call it 'Fok UNIX' ('fok' meaning 'seal' in Turkish) as an inside joke.

Overall, the project is still alive and going well with the current goal being POSIX-1.1990 compliance.

Fun fact: FX/Fjord's entire filesystem was just a tar archive parser in early versions. We were literally just passing tar archives as ramdisks.
